Indiana Tech Magazine for Alumni & Friends

Editorial design and illustration

Indiana Tech is a small, independent private university based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It’s a fantastic little school offering a wide range of degrees, but it’s a 100-year history rooted deeply in STEM education.

I work with the in-house creative team to design their triannual magazine for alumni, faculty and friends. In 2024, we gave the design a refresh. At the core of the project was a desire to make the magazine printing as cost effective as possible while still maintaining the high quality of content. We worked with our print partner, Excel Color Graphics, to optimize the paper stock, page count, book dimensions, and ink colors. We optimized the design of columns, the TOC, and other areas to maximize the use of page real estate. In the process, we also updated the masthead design, tightened up typographic styles, and created cohesive graphic elements.

It’s a blast to work on this magazine. The talent and creativity coming from students, faculty and alumni creates opportunities for immersive stories with fun infographics and photo treatments. Here are a few sample spread from recent issues.

Drew has designed Indiana Tech Magazine for several years, and I can honestly say I am always eager to see that first proof and admire the ways he puts it all together. As editor of this magazine, it’s no small feat to assemble the content and assets that go into it. I know that every time, my work will be rewarded with an outstanding finished product that I can proudly and confidently put out into the world. Plus, Drew is just a nice guy who is very easy to work with.”
